mplayer dvdnav navigation mouse doesn’t highlight/work

Filed under: Uncategorized — rogerdpack @ 5:28 pm

For me, this meant
“in windows, you have to run mplayer -mouse-movements -vo direct3d for it to get the mouse movements” (now menus work with the raw mplayer.exe).

or maybe -vo directx?

Playing c:\tmp\Narnia_voyage_of_the_dawn_treader_edited_version.fulli_unedited.tmp.mpg.Invalid seek to negative position fffffffffffffff8!

meant “you are trying to take input of a zero length file” (for me, maybe also means your seek positions are off/too far)?

dove edited films

Filed under: Uncategorized — rogerdpack @ 3:08 pm

dove.org, in response to my question

Web Site http://www.dove.org/news.asp?ArticleID=55

Comments:
Did these edited movies ever come to light?

Yes. New Line released edited versions of “The Mask” “The Bachelor” “Blast
from the Past” and “Lost in Space.” The sales exceeded their
expectations. One recent title New Line released on DVD in an edited
version is “Martian Child” starring John Cusack and Amanda Peete.

Now, we work behind the scenes with several studios that send us early
screeners so we can advise them of any concerns we have so they can edit
the films before their release.

Well that’s something I guess :)

mplayer -hr-edl-seek

Filed under: Uncategorized — rogerdpack @ 1:26 pm
-hr-edl-seek

Use a more precise, but much slower method for skipping areas. Areas marked for skipping are not seeked over, instead all frames are decoded, but only the necessary frames are encoded. This allows starting at non-keyframe boundaries.
NOTE : Not guaranteed to work right with ‘-ovc copy’.

note: it’s mencoder only, doesn’t mean anything to mplayer I guess [?]

That last message means “if your EDL goes between i-frame boundaries it won’t transcode right” (but means that if you *are* transcoding, the EDL will work more accurately, see http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Mplayer#Split.2Fsub-section_videos

men are from mars, women are from venus love letter

Filed under: Uncategorized — rogerdpack @ 1:46 pm

As published by Dr. Gray originally in “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” writing yourself or your loved one a “love letter” can really help you to understand what makes you tick, and the root cause for your current feelings.  You can give the letter to them (complete with the section “the response I’d most want from you is”) or read it out loud to them, or do neither.  It can be quite helpful for getting down deeper into the emotional root causes for feeling the things that you do.  Here is the synopsis.

open source projects tend to lack polish

Filed under: Uncategorized — rogerdpack @ 4:27 pm

This is where free software kind of stinks.  viz: ruby (lack of docu), avidemux (can’t use streams with anything but a constant frame rate <sigh>), motion (detection software) only have a CLI, VLC doesn’t warn you if you try to transcode to something that it doesn’t allow (silently ignores it instead <sigh>)…
