Our client needed to create a 400+ page engineering review document including drawings that cataloged current progress and configuration of a large project. A customer of the client demanded a new and current document to be published every 6 weeks. This task was seen as a distraction to the work at hand and a burden as it took 60 man-hours to complete each time. The summary format of the catalog document was different from the format of the drawings requiring 2 complete and separate workflows.
After reviewing the current workflows a method was defined to consistently produce the desired outputs This method was then implemented in a computer program and related definition elements. The program scanned the electronic drawings database and created the required four views of the components and placed them onto a border along with the identifying information. The process time was reduced to a total of 8 man hours to produce the same document.
